The Founder & Director of SMCC story
I would like to start from the first day of my arrival in 1981 in the United States. These were four of us, my brother Samuel who was the only one in the family who had a good education. The rest of us has no English or French speaking ability. We were orphans ourselves. Dad died in 1972 and we were on our own. God has performed a miracle in our individual lives by letting us be sponsored for a life in the U.S. I am so thankful to the U.S. for extending us a helping and loving hand.
Once upon of time, in my early days in the U.S., when I lived in NYC, I knew I was in anger. A hurricane came to town. I was so scared. I stood in front of my bedroom mirror and said to Him, O Lord, save me from the danger from the hurricane, I promise I'll serve you and take care of your children for the rest of my life.
During my first trip back to Cambodia in 1992, I was there just to observe the city of Phnom Penh. The city has changed a lot and I had mixed feelings (excitement, happiness, sadness) about my own homecoming.
During my second tripped back to Cambodia in 2002, I saw children all over the place wandering around without clothes on and walking through the market through the rotten trasks and fighting over soda cans and garbage food to survive. Some of the time, I saw naked children standing in the rain, sleeping on bicycle carts and on the street.
In the mean time, I went to visit one of the established children's center in Stung Chhay run by the Buddhists people. This center provided only physical education (only sport). I wondered what I could to to help these children. I have nothing to start off with. I prayed, O Lord, I wish I has a home for them and empower them with education, hope, a future and spiritual growth. Suddenly, I remembered the promised that I have make to God a long time ago. So, I decided to buy a small piece of land and thought someday that I'll build a home for children who are homeless, orphans, and abandoned.
In 2007, I went with a group called UBUTU EXPLORERS WOMEN'S MISSION to Cambodian. Our team went to visit the women's center and the next day we went to see the homeless children near the city of Phnom Penh. Again, I was astonished by the children scrowning for food in the garbage dump and by adults who are forced to scavenge through the trash just to survive. I was broken to tear and speechless. I said to God! Here I am, Lord. I'll go help your children, Lord! If you lead me, I'll hold your people in my heart. I witnessed the children who are in desperate need. My observation of these children has motivated me and made me determinate to start the orphanage project. I decided to start the orphanage project on the land that I bought. This is my chance to serve the Lord as I have promised Him a long time ago. I have shared this project with my congregation and with woman group as well.
"God, who began a good work in you, Will be faithful to complete it".
In 2008, the building was complete. But a lot of work is still needed. The building can house 16 children and can be use as a church, school and a medical clinic.
In 2009, I brought 7 children into the center. some of them have parents but they are HIV positive and can not work. They are very poor and lack financial resource to support their children.
Your caring and your financial support have provided the help to change these children's lives. You have been a blessing to these children of Cambodia.
Thank you so very much for helping them.
MAY GOD ALWAYS BE WITH YOU!
